The National Parks of Bolivia
Date Added: August 18, 2008 09:09:31 PM
Bolivia is a favorite travel destination for people everywhere who want to enjoy the natural beauty of the Amazon rainforest. Not only is Bolivia the host for an abundance of natural beauty it is also the home of modern cities and cultural and historical sites that make it a destination that will provide a lifetime of memories.

Bolivia is home to several national parks which house endangered and protected flora and fauna. The national parks are located in diverse geography areas and range from mountains and lakes to massive forests which house pristine forests. Bolivia has a total of eighteen national parks and protected areas that house these forests and their inhabitants.

If you do decide to walk through one of the magnificent national parks remember that Bolivia experiences a lot of rain year-round so you may want to take an extra set of clothing or a rain jacket to protect yourself during one of its downpours. Many of the national parks in Bolivia offer hiking and trekking tours across sections of the parks. These trekking tours can last anywhere from a few hours to several days and many of the parks offer special camping areas for you and your family to enjoy.

If you want to experience the Amazon Jungle firsthand you can go on a jungle tour that includes camping, boating and trekking into the jungle. Most jungle tours begin in the city of Rurrenabaque where you will begin your Amazon adventure by boating up the Beni and Tuichi rivers. You can camp on the boats or banks of the rivers at night and venture into the Amazon with an experienced guide during the day.

You can also experience the Amazon Jungle by visiting the Madidi National Park which is over 2 million hectares of protected land. The Madidi National Park is home to thousands of animals including birds, monkeys and other mammals.

There are several tours that will take you across the Titicaca Lake into Challapampa Village an isolated island town that is steeped in traditional Bolivian culture including Incan ruins. You can walk to the ruins from the town on a guided tour where you will be welcomed with gifts and be able to enjoy traditional rituals and ceremonies based on the Bolivian culture. What better way to enjoy Bolivia than in the ruins of the Incans which is surrounded by pristine forests and the stunning Titicaca Lake.
